Success Starts in The Kitchen

A Brief History of The Apple Pie

Oswaldo Koch, MBA, PMP, P.Eng. / Fitness Trainer - Martial Arts Instructor

Apple pie is a beloved dessert in America. Often served at Thanksgiving dinners, many families have their own unique recipes passed down from generation to generation. While apple pie did not originate in America, in 1902, an editorial in the New York Times proclaimed that pie had become “the American synonym for prosperity” and considered a classic American dish.

Apple pie originated in Europe and it was developed with the help influences from France, the Netherlands, Britain and the Ottoman Empire. And, it was the 15th century Dutch who first created the apple pie we are familiar with today, and a mere century later, they could be found all across Europe. Eventually, apple pie was brought to the colonies by European settlers, where the dish quickly became a family tradition. Below is the Perfect Apple Pie!

Apple Pie Dough Ingredients

Here is my favorite apple pie recipe, with an easy, homemade pie crust, and a filling with organic apples. Let's do it!

  • Butter - 250 grms.
  • White sugar (organic)- 75 grms.
  • Egg (organic) - 1 fresh egg.
  • Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Vanilla (organic)- 1 teaspoon
  • Salt (Himalayan)- 1 pinch
  • White Flower (organic) - 3 cups
  • Milk (organic) - 6 tablespoons

Instructions: Follow the step by step instructions from the video above.

Apple Pie Filling Ingredients

This apple pie is my most requested pie during the holidays. Follow the instructions from the video and you will enjoy an apple pie beyond words!

  • 8 peeled, cored and sliced organic apples (Honey Crisp)
  • 1 &1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1/2 Lime
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Instructions: Peel, core, and slice the apples: Peel, core and slice or roughly chop the apples into 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch slices or chunks. As you cut your apple slices, add them to a large bowl and toss them with the lemon juice to help keep them from turning brown. Make sure to follow the instructions from the video above.
