Core
Nutrition
| "You
are what you eat" is a common adage, heard frequently in today's society
of growing obesity, allergies and environment-related illnesses. In today's society,
eating healthy is a lot harder than it might seem. We live in a fast-paced world,
one dominated by convenience, fast food and disposable products.
Seduced
by the comfortable life that technological advances have made possible, we seem
to forget the power of the individual's body and spirit. We are a materialistic
society, yet we have no respect for nature. To
discard a paper cup from our daily coffee or tea seems a very small transgression,
but multiplied by a million people, the problem becomes staggering and the act
has a serious impact to our environment and ultimately the wellness of humanity.
This same attitude towards nature affects our attitude toward ourselves and our
lives.

Eating
For Lots Of Reasons | In
modern societies, heart disease and cancer are the leading causes of death. And
there is a great deal of evidence that some of the major causes of these illnesses
are related to overeating and a lack of nutritious food. Medical research has
consistently shown the consequences of eating a diet that does not consist of
essential food health vitamins but instead relies on processed foods; consuming
too much sugary and high salt content foods; and engaging in the practice of overeating.
We eat for lots of reasons: - Because
it is time to eat and we feel hungry
- Because
we are celebrating - we are happy and excited
- Because
we are anxious, sad or nervous
- Because
we are upset, angry or frustrated
- Because,
"food is there" and for some reason, we feel we "have to"
Eating
when our bodies don't really require food can easily lead to overeating. And overeating
can lead to health problems related to being overweight. Despite
this awareness however, the consumption of refined, processed and junk food continues
to be the main staple for many people, which is in effect, starving the body of
its required health food vitamin needs. Time constraints on some people - from
their busy and hectic lifestyle can make it all too easy to turn to processed
or junk foods and soda drinks, which might seem a quick and easy option. The problem
with eating such foods and drinking sodas, coffee or tea regularly is that we
develop bad eating habits.

SEEKING MODERATION | Practicing
Core Nutrition doesn't have to be the difficult option. One main difference between
Core Nutrition and dieting is the stress of a diet and the difficulties in maintaining
the rigors imposed by most diets. Core Nutrition means using variety, balance
and moderation in what we choose to eat daily.
When you eat in moderation,
you don't need to deprive yourself from the food you like. You don't have to restrict
yourself by cutting out a whole range of foods you like. Depriving yourself will
never work - but what will work, is eating healthy foods, and some of the junk
food you like in moderation. The key to practice Core Nutrition is variety, balance
and moderation with your meals and drinks.
