Failure    Issue# 38

 THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

--Thomas Alva Edison:

WHAT'S NEW

From "Overcoming Obstacles."

Decision Making
by Tahir Shah

Successful people are great decision makers. It doesn’t mean they always make the best decisions – but it does mean they are among the best. Poor decision making skills ensure that people never realize the opportunities that life presents and never climb the obstacles or hurdles that they face.

Most of us think we’re good at making decisions until the pressure is on and we’re faced with making one. Then we turn to everyone else hoping that someone will make that decision for us. I see that happen with people from all walks of life in every aspect of their lives – letting others make decisions on their behalf because they’re afraid to decide for themselves. I’m going to give you an insight so powerful that it will help you increase your decision making
skills instantly.

“A person’s ability to make decisions is directly proportional to how much they trust themselves” - Tahir Shah

Read that again. Think about it. The more you trust yourself, the better you will be at making decisions. The less you trust yourself, the more you will look toward others to make decisions for you.

REFLECTIONS

From "Overcoming Obstacles."

The Secret of Changing Our
Negative Programming

by Glen Curry

Even though we might not be head-over-heels in love with our lives and may in fact desire to change some things, most people don’t know what to do to make the changes that would make a difference. One thing is sure; if we keep thinking what we’ve always thought, we’ll keep getting what we’ve always got.

Most people don't have a clue how they got what they have in life. They are certain that “life happens to them” because of random coincidences and happenstance. They would never even imagine that they themselves created or attracted the lack, struggle, and unhappiness they are experiencing by misusing and misapplying fixed scientific laws. That's right! Abundance, blessings, and happiness occur where the laws that govern these things are understood and
applied. This means that life doesn't happen to you; life happens because of you!

The results you experience in life (good or bad) are determined by your
understanding and application of fixed scientific laws. Understand and master
these laws and learn to apply them correctly, and you are guaranteed to be happy
and prosperous.

The Cost of Arthritis
Preventing Arthritis!

Each year arthritis is estimated to cost $81 billion for medical costs and an additional $47 billion in lost wages (in 2003 dollars).

Arthritis is responsible for 750,000 hospitalizations and 36 million outpatient visits every year.

As the U.S. population ages, arthritis-related costs are likely to soar.

Preventing Arthritis

Many people think of arthritis as a nuisance that causes some pain and discomfort but that can usually be eliminated with a pill or joint replacement and puts you right back on track again. You'd be misguided if you think that way.

Arthritis is a serious health condition, but can be treated or possibly prevented. Many of the habits that are recommended for a healthy lifestyle play a role in preventing some types of arthritis and related conditions. Some common tips for prevention include:

  • Exercise regularly to strengthen muscles around joints and help increase bone density. Regular exercise is essential. It creates stronger and more flexible joints. Exercise doesn't have to be strenuous. Just regular.
  • Reduce repetitive strain on muscles and joints. Be alert for any chronic aches and strains caused by work, hobby, or recreation-related activities. Don't ignore the signs and wait for them to worsen.
  • Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet to help maintain your recommended weight. Women who are overweight have a higher risk of developing osteoarthritis in the knees.
  • Talk to your doctor about taking vitamin and mineral supplements. Having insufficient levels of vitamin D decreases the amount of calcium your body can absorb. That coupled with lower calcium levels as you age can help contribute to osteoporosis.
  • Practice Core Training to reduce wear and tear on your joints, which can help prevent injury and reduce the risk of osteoarthritis. Increased bone density also can help stave off osteoporosis.
  • Avoid smoking and limit your alcohol consumption to help avoid osteoporosis. Both habits weaken the structure of bone, which puts you at higher risk for fractures.
  • Water your joints. Water makes up 70 percent of the cartilage in joints and plays a major role in the lubrication and shock absorbing properties of healthy joints. Dehydration may be a major underlying, and unrecognized, factor in degeneration and pain. Don't substitute sodas, coffee, and tea for water. These beverages contain ingredients that may block the absorption of water or act like diuretics, that is, promote excretion of fluids from the body. Drinks lots of good quality water everyday.

Failure: Your bestest friend

You can't be beaten at anything, until you quit in your own mind. There is no failure except in your not trying. Every instance of failure is indeed a form of education.

Failure is part of the path to success. Consider yourself on a very long journey and failure is just an obstacle to get round on the route to your ultimate destination. So, failure is part of the process of learning anything.

Failure is the best lesson toward success. Failure is not your enemy; he is your bestest friend who is always trying to show how you can be a better person next time. Failure is the only known method to clear up the uncertainties.

You have no real insurmountable barrier except your own inherent weakness of purpose. The odds are with you if you keep on trying. In the end, you can fail only if you don't try. There is no defeat except from within.

 The Success Mindset

The Obstacle
in Our Path

In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the big stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. On approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway.

The peasant learned what many others never understand. Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve one's condition.
